It is perhaps not entirely appropriate to my job description that my attitude during the furore surrounding the critics vs. book blogs debate was one of bewilderment. It seems to me that there will always be a place for criticism proper, and that to object to the enfranchisement of literature and literary appreciation on the grounds that it will encroach on the territory of the trained reflects a certain insecurity. Welcome one, welcome all, we say.
So, in the interests of enfranchisement and equality and generally showing how darned forward-thinking we are, we are offering three free books and your name in lights to the winning entrant in this month’s reviewing competition. To enter, send a 400-word review of any Hesperus Press title to enquiries AT hesperuspress DOT com; the winner will be published in the next issue of our online magazine.
Happy writing!
